And before hanging up she said, "The next time we talk, you'll be parents!"

On Monday morning, February 7th, we got a call that has forever change our lives. It was our adoption coordinator, Amanda. As we've shared throughout our infertility and adoption journeys, there have been beautiful highs and difficult lows, both bestowed by our gracious God's loving hands. Truth be told, the previous weekend was a pretty low point for us. Saturday and Sunday were a few of our more tearful days. As we had in the past, we stopped to pray on Sunday night, both for renewed strength and trust in God's loving and sovereign plan...and for an expectant mother to choose us.

But this time we added, "If it be your will, Lord, would you let her choose us this week?"

The very next morning was just like any other morning. I got up and fixed Tyler and myself breakfast. Then he went to work on his dissertation edits, and I sat down beside him with my coffee and art work. The phone rang, and I noticed it was Amanda. I answered, and she got right to the point, "There was a baby boy born last week on Friday, February 4th. He's in Houston, and his birthmother would like to meet you guys before she signs the papers." We talked for awhile about the details. And before hanging up she said, "The next time we talk, you'll be parents!"

Is not our God so very benevolent?

With or without blessings such as these, He is good and loving and kind. This we have learned time and time again. But it is so, so special when He reaches down with a gift and whispers, "yes."

As you can imagine, the next few minutes we spent crying and laughing and frantically packing for Houston all while trying to call our families to share the good news! It was quite the silly sight I'm sure!

We met our sweet boy's biological mother the next day, February 8th. And we signed the adoption papers on February 9th.
